Clara D Young Legacy Foundation

For families

Caregiving is a lot to hold. You don’t have to make sense of it alone.

Clara D Young Legacy Foundation is building a more personal path for families caring for loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s, dementia, or Parkinson’s starting in Pleasant Grove.

Who we serve

For the people behind the diagnosis, too.

Our work is for families navigating the everyday realities of Alzheimer’s, dementia, or Parkinson’s: changing routines, difficult decisions, and the need for care that honors the person at the center of it all.

The foundation is developing an affordable memory care home and community respite support in Dallas. Clara’s House Pleasant Grove is the planned facility where that vision will take shape, and the foundation will lead its day-to-day operations, including care services, respite programming, staffing, caregiver education, and community support. The work begins with a small-home setting in Pleasant Grove, where familiar rhythms and human connection can have room to grow.

What makes our model different

Designed around closeness.

Clara’s House is being designed to offer a different kind of care experience in Dallas, with a smaller setting and support that stays connected to the neighborhood.

Small and home-like

The planned residence is designed for approximately 8 to 10 residents, with familiar rhythms at the center.

Close to home

A Pleasant Grove location keeps the work rooted in the neighborhood, so families do not have to leave their community to find care.

Affordability-minded

Planning is informed by local household income and includes the Clara’s Subsidy Fund as part of the affordability focus.

More than residential care

Weekday respite services and caregiver education are planned alongside memory care, giving families more ways to find support.

Foundation-led and founder-shaped

The foundation will lead day-to-day operations, memory care, respite programming, staffing, caregiver education, and community support. Dr. Charliette Cummings, Founder & President, has more than 20 years of healthcare industry experience in Dallas, including roles at Parkland Health and Baylor Scott & White, and her personal experience caring for her mother shapes the mission.

A local investment

The project is intended to create real jobs close to home and strengthen the local community. It is planned for a June 2027 opening, subject to approvals, licensing, funding, and final plans.

What families can expect

Clarity, dignity, and room to breathe.

01

A home-like model

The planned memory care home is designed around a small scale, familiar daily life, and specialized support for residents and the people who love them.

02

Respite with respect

Future respite support will create a place for caregivers to pause, tend to their own needs, and return to care with more support around them.

03

Education for real life

Training classes and community learning will make complicated care questions easier to approach, discuss, and carry home.

04

Honest next steps

We will share the vision as it develops, without pretending to have answers about availability, pricing, or care needs before they are ready.
